Bearing (also referred to as shaft nuts) locknuts provide a positive rotational lock on rotating bearing shafts. They provide resistance against vibration and are also used when precise torque settings are needed. These nuts use a thin round nut in combination with a tab-lock washer and can be self-locking or non-locking. The nut is tightened by use of the external slots.
/Asset/BEARING2_isolated.jpgThese nut types are ideal for sheet metal applications where an anchor nut can not be used due to size and mounting options. The Clinch and Stake nuts allow for blind applications and are pressed in to the sheet material allowing cold flow which keeps the nut in place.
The Howmet Aerospace FlatBeam™ locknut has a unique design that provides significant performance advantages over conventional all-metal crimped locknuts. With reuse capability of up to 250 seated cycles, the FlatBeam™ locknut has up to 16 times the life of other locking nuts, making this the ideal choice for applications with high-reuse requirements such as access panels.
The design utilizes six flexible flat beams. These beams provide critical prevailing torque on the bolt without placing abnormal wear on bolt threads. Both the nut and the bolt maintain tangential contact points so that the beam corners avoid contact with the bolt. This prevents destructive shaving of the bolt's threads and adds considerably to the life of the bolt as well as the locknut.

The Howmet Aerospace FlatBeam™ locknut is available in thread sizes ranging from .1640"(08) to .375" (6). One and two lug options are available as well as nutplate assemblies with replaceable nut elements for cycle life requirements greater than 250. Nutplates are available in alloy steel and CRES materials, with various finishes. Configurations with domed shells, reduced rivet spacing, increased floatability, variable counterbore depths, and self-aligning capability are also available.
K-Fast™ nuts are high strength, vibration-resistant, self-locking fasteners that offer fast, reliable and repetitive installations with K-Fast™ tooling. Many lightweight designs are available, and features include self- sealing; self- aligning; and a counterbore that accommodates variations in structure thickness and oversize repair fasteners. The K-Fast™ nuts can be spindled for use in automatic tools.
